Plummer block bearing units are heavy duty split units where
the top of the casting is bolted to the bottom, housing either
a ball or a roller bearing.
The bearing will normally have a tapered bore and use a separate
taper sleeve to lock it onto the shaft.
Also the housing will be fitted with separate, replaceable seals
to keep contamination from the bearing.
These bearing units are generally used in fairly harsh industrial
environments such as gravel extraction plants where both the
bearing and housing need to take high loads and be able to withstand
dusty, abrasive conditions.
The split housing and the ability to replace the bearing separately
can make significant reductions to maintenance and production
costs from down time.
