Here at Townsend Bearings we have a wide range of pillow blocks more commonly known as self lube bearings available from stock.
Conventional pillow blocks consist of an insert bearing (a single row deep groove ball bearing) with a convex sphered outside diameter and a housing which has a correspondingly sphered but concave bore.
Pillow blocks can accommodate moderate initial misalignment, but normally do not permit axial displacement. They are ready to use and ready to mount units.
Casting shapes vary from “hump back bridge” type, as shown in the picture, through to 2 and 4 bolt flange units and also ‘take up units’ for tensioning drives.
They are commonly used in pairs on shafts where slightly misalignment of the shaft needs to be eradicated. The pressed steel versions are used for lighter and more compact applications. They can also be used for such things as swivelling targets, conveyors, go karts, amusement park rides, agriculture machinery, rollers, textile machines and fans as well as in machines for food and beverage processing and packaging.
Pillow blocks provide designers with an extensive freedom of choice so that compromises can be avoided.
